Family Web Site

Welcome

Welcome to our family web site. I originally set up this site to encourage and facilitate the recording and sharing of memories about the Craig family. However, it has become increasingly obvious to me that this is the perfect medium for all family members to keep in touch and share ideas as much as recording memories from the past. So, whilst stories and quotations are warmly welcomed, everyone is invited to contribute whatever information they would like to share. Hopefully the new forum will make the site more interactive and be useful for researching subjects or just keeping everyone up to date with family news.

Navigation

The site is divided into a number of sections accessed from the menu across the top. Clicking on an item name with a mouse will take you to that item. Items may be visited in any order and the back button on your browser can be used to revisit the last page viewed. Hypertext links are used through out the site to allow you to jump to related articles or items for more information.

Contributions

Until a more sophisticated method for submitting things has been developed, I am happy to be the point of contact for all items to be 'published', whether they are articles, suggestions, or general bits and pieces of interest. To reduce my workload, it is obviously easier if things can already be typed, whether in an email, attached to an email in a separate file or posted on a floppy disk. However, as I am so keen to get this site off the ground, I am also happy to accept written or taped contributions which I will type up myself before adding them.

Photos

The family album page provides an opportunity to share some of the best of the family snaps. Now that digital cameras are so popular emailing photos to me has never been easier. Original photographs must first be scanned electronically into a digital format. Bobby is happy to help with this, and even retouch them if required, but the reponsibility for the safe transfer of the photos to and from Manchester lies with the sender. Contact him to discuss suitability and format first.

Family Trees

We are lucky that several family trees have already been compiled by members of the family. Margaret Young has given me her work on the Garrett family tree and Sarah Richards has researched the Craig and Mackinnon families. If anyone has other trees that they feel would be of interest to other people please get in touch with me so that we can add them to the site and link them to existing trees.

I hope that everyone will contribute to their own page adding the personal touch and bringing the trees to life. It can be a space for you to say something about yourself, whether in terms of education, career, hobbies and interests or simply tell everyone what you are up to now or to share some photos. Updates should be sent to me in the same way as other articles, see notes on sending articles and photos above.

Forum for Discussion

Allows people to post and reply to messages that can be viewed by everyone using the web site. For a step by step guide to using the forum click here....

Feedback

Finally, this is just the beginning. I hope this site will generate some interest, enthusiasm and inspire everyone to contribute something - however small. I welcome any feedback on the site in terms of structure and ease (or otherwise) of use and any suggestions for improvements. Now that we have a discussion forum, it should be easy for people to get their comments directly onto the site.
